Summary:  Co-chairs MaryBeth Strassel and Nanette VanSchoyck-Scarberry have directed members of the LLC & Palm Leaf Club in a dramatic reading of “Rosie the Riveter”.

Program: Detroit Music Before Motown-1920-1950 by Ken Stevens, EMU
Summary:  Dr. Stevens will reveal the history and music of the Black Bottom and Paradise Valley neighborhoods, both of which became major entertainment districts, drawing in nationally known blues singers, big bands, and jazz artists.

Program: Teaching Literature in Singapore: A Country that Forgot to Read
Summary:  Neil Macknish will relate his experiences teaching in a country where the role of literature in K-12 education was being reduced while, paradoxically, government concern about character development in the young was increasing.
